April has been a month for Ring cycles! Los Angeles Opera premiered their bold new Achim Freyer production of Die Walküre during April (featured below), while the Metropolitan Opera has begun the final performances of its historic Otto Schenk production. HIGHLIGHTS DURING MAY 2009
1 May Houston Grand Opera gives the world premiere performance of André Previn's new opera Brief Encounter. 12 May Diana Damrau stars as Adina in a revival of Laurent Pelly's production of L'Elisir d'Amore by the Royal Opera.
2 May Washington National Opera continues its Ring with a new production of Siegfried directed by Francesca Zambello. 20 May Scottish Opera mounts a new production of Manon directed by Renaud Doucet with Anne-Sophie Duprels in the title role.
9 May Davis Alden directs a new production of Peter Grimes for English National Opera with Stuart Skelton in the title role. 21 May Glyndebourne begins its 75th anniversary season with a new production of Falstaff directed by Richard Jones.
