Wexford Festival Opera has been allocated €1.68 million in strategic funding from the Arts Council for 2023, an increase of 3% or €45,000 on last year.

The Opera Festival is one of 107 arts organisations throughout Ireland sharing in more than €50 million in financial support, from theatre, music and visual arts to literature and festivals.

"Following significantly increased investment in recent years, these funding commitments will consolidate the position of these critically important organisations”,  said Arts Council director Maureen Kennelly.

Arts Council chair Professor Kevin Rafter said the organisation’s overall budget of €130 million will be spent on developing the role of the artist and increasing public engagement with the arts.

"The Council’s latest strategic funding decisions will allow people all over the country to experience great art throughout 2023.”

The criteria on which strategic funding applications are assessed are artistic quality and development of the arts, public engagement, organisational capacity, the importance of the organisation in the arts infrastructure and commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion.
