Syracuse Opera announces 2015-2016 that includes new and classic operas

For its final production of its 40th anniversary season, Syracuse Opera presented "The Barber of Seville." The 2015-2016 season schedule of three operas was announced on opening night Friday.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. - Syracuse Opera announced its 2015-2016 season that begins and ends with contemporary operas. Artistic Director Douglas Kinney Frost announced the upcoming season on the Crouse Hinds Theater stage before the first performance of "The Barber of Seville" on Friday. Here is the 2015-2016 season.

"Glory Denied," by Tom Cipullo.
Nov. 6 and 8 in the Carrier Theater of the John H. Mulroy Civic Center. The contemporary opera is based on the book "Glory Denied: The Saga of Jim Thompson, America's Longest-Held Prisoner of War," by Tom Philpott. The Viet Cong imprisoned Thompson from 1964 to 1973. In the opera, the younger and older Thompson and his wife Alyce share their stories and the difficulties that followed Thompson's return home.

"La Boheme," by Puccini.
Feb. 5 and 7, 2016 in the Crouse Hinds Theater at the John H. Mulroy Civic Center. Set in 1840s Paris, the opera revolves around the lives and loves of young struggling artists and their friends.

"West Side Story," by Leonard Bernstein. April 8 and 10 in Crouse-Hinds Theater. A 1950s version of "Romeo and Juliet." Tony and Maria are the star-crossed lovers caught between rival New York gangs.

Season subscriptions start at $60 and go on sale May 4. To order, call the Syracuse Opera box office at 315-476-7372. Single tickets start at $25 and will go on sale Sept. 8.
