Nationaltheater Mannheim Unveils 2019-20 Season

The Nationaltheater Mannheim has announced its 2019-20 seasons, which includes nine production premieres and 15 revivals.

Premieres

The season opens with Britten’s “Peter Grimes,” which will be directed by Markus Dietz and conducted by Alexander Soddy. Roy Cornelius stars in the title role with Astrid Kessler as Ellen Orford.

Performance Dates: Nov. 11, 2019 – March 15, 2020

Jelena Kordic stars as “Carmen” in a production directed by Yona Kim and conducted by Mark Rohde. Other cast members include Irakli Kakhidze, Evez Abdulla, and Eunju Kwon.

Performance Dates: Dec. 12, 2019-April 25, 2020

Don Pasquale” will be directed by Cordula Däuper with Janis Liepins conducting. Bartosz Urbanowicz and Patrick Zielke alternate the title role while Nikola Diskic and Ilya Lapich are Malatesta. Joshua Whitener and Juraj Holly are Ernesto and Amelia Scicolone and Nikola HIllebrand are Norina.

Performance Dates: Jan 31, 2020-June 28, 2020

A new work “Phantome der Oper” (not the famed musical) will feature soprano Astrid Kesller, mezzo Shahar Lavi, tenor Joshua Whitener, baritone Joachim Goltz, and bass Sung Ha. Mark Rohde conducts and Philipp Stölz directs.

Performance Dates: Feb. 29,2020 – June 7, 2020

Rameau’s “Hippolyte et Aricie” will star Amelia Scicolone, Charles Sy, Sophie Rennert, and Eunju Kwon. Lorenzo Floroni directs and Bernhard Forck conducts.

Performance Dates: March 29, 2020-July 3, 2020

Estelle Kruger, Jelena Kordic, Joshua Whitener, Nikola Diskic, and Koral Güvener will star in Bellini’s “Beatrice di Tenda,” conducted by Janis Liepins.

Performance Dates: May 28, 2020-July 25, 2020

Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” will be presented by directed Luise Kautz and conductor Alexander Soddy. The two lovers will be played by Allison Oakes and Frank van Aken.

Performance Dates: June 14, 2020-July 5, 2020

Hans Thomalla’s “Dark Spring” will be performed by Shahar Lavi, Anna Hybiner, and Christopher Diffey under the musical direction of Alan Pierson.

Performance Dates: June 21, 2020 – July 30, 2020 

The final new production is Mozart’s “Die Entführung aus dem Serail” with Nikola Hillebrand, Amelia Scicolone, Joshua Whitener, Raphael Wittmer, and Patrick Zielke.

Performance Dates: July 11, 2020 – July 30, 2020

Revivals (In Order of First Presentations)

Verdi’s “Il Trovatore” will star I. Matula, M. Clark, Irakli Kakhidze, Jorge Lagunes, and Evez Abdulla. Roberto Rizzi Brignoli and Janis Liepins conduct.

Performance Dates: Sept. 15, 2019 -Jan. 24, 2020

Strauss’ “Die Frau ohne Schatten” will star Julia Faylenbogen, Catherine Foster, Andreas Hermann, and KS Thomas Jesatko. Alexander Soddy conducts.

Performance Dates: Oct. 3,2019 – Jan. 12, 2020

Donizetti’s “L’Elisir d’Amore” will feature Amelia Scicolone, Nikola Diskic, Barotsz Ubranowicz, and Joshua Whitener.

Performance Dates:  Oct. 6, 2019-Dec. 15, 2019.

Strauss’ “Salome” will star Allison Oakes, Marie-Belle Sandis, Uew Elkötter, Andreas Hermann, and Jorge Lagunes. Alexander Soddy conducts.

Performance Dates:  Nov. 24, 2019 – Jan. 23, 2020 

“Der Ring an einem Abend” will get a series of performances with Astrid Kessler, Elisabeth Teige, Uwe Elkötter, Joachim Goltz, KS Thomas Kesatko, Roy Cornelius Smith, and Patrick Zielke.

Performance Dates: Dec. 14, 2019 – Feb. 8, 2020

Shahar Lavi, Cornelia Zink, Thomas Berau, and Uwe Elkötter star in Humperdinck’s “Hänsel und Gretel.”

Performance Dates: Dec. 12, 2019 – Feb. 1, 2020

Offenbach’s “Orpheus in the Underworld” will star Jasmina Sakr, Amelia Scicolone, Ilya Lapich, Joachim Goltz, Joshua Whitener, and Christopher Diffey.

Performance Dates: Dec. 31, 2019 – May 30, 2020

Strauss’ “Der Rosenkavalier” will star Nikola HIllebrand, Astrid Kessler, Jelena Kordic, Thomas Berau, and Patrick Zielke. Alexander Soddy conducts.

Performance Dates: Jan. 11, 2020 – Jan. 30, 2020 

Puccini’s “La Bohème” will star Estella Kruger, Eunju Kwon, Evez Abdulla, Jorge Lagunes, Dominic Barberi, and Irakli Kakhidze. Mark Rohde conducts.

Performance Dates: Feb. 6, 2020-March 13, 2020

Wagner’s “Parsifal” will star Tulja Knithilä, Nikola Diskic, Sung Ha, KS Thomas Jesatko, and Nikolai Schukoff. Alexander Soddy conducts.

Performance Dates: April 10, 2020-May 21, 2020

Alexander Soddy conducts Verdi’s “Otello” with Astrid Kessler, Evez Abdulla, Jorge Lagunes, Andreas Hermann, Roy Cornelius Smith, and Juraj Holly.

Performance Dates: April 12, 2020 – June 2, 2020

Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” will be conducted by Mark Rohde and will star Martiniana Antonie, Nikola Hillebrand, Eunju Kwon, and Marie-Belle Sandis, among others.

Performance Dates: May 16, 2020-July 17, 2020

Wagner’s“Siegfried” will star Chris Hilley, Julia Faylenbogen, Allison Oakes, Uwe Elkötter, and KS Thomas Jesatko. Alexander Soddy conducts.
