Ekaterina Siurina & Alexandra Loutsion Highlight Pittsburgh Opera’s 2020-21 Season

The Pittsburgh Opera has announced its 2020-21 season featuring three main stage production and three modern operas. Here is a look at the ambitious season.

Main Stage – Benedum Center Productions

The season opens with Dvořák’s “Rusalka,” the first time the opera will be preformed with the company. The opera is set to star Ekaterina Siurina in the title role, Evan LeRoy Johnson, Marianne Cornetti, Hao Jiang Tian, and Julianna di Giacomo. Antony Walker is set to conduct the production by Kristine McIntyre.

Performance Dates: Oct. 10-18, 2020

Eric Ferring, Kathryn Bowden, Adelaide Boedecker, Benjamin Taylor, Natasha Wilson, and Tom McNichols star in Mozart’s “The Magic Flute.” A conductor and director are set to be announced at a later date.

Performance Dates: Nov. 7-15, 2020

The third main stage work will be Verdi’s “Aida” starring Alexandra Loutsion in the title role. The opera is also set to star Jeremy Harr, Marianne Cornetti, Musa Ngqungwana, and Natasha Wilson. Antony Walker conducts the production by Crystal Manich.

Performance Dates: March 20-28, 2021

CAPA Theater production

Tobias Picker’s “Emmeline” will receive its Pittsburgh Opera premiere with Crystal Manich directing. Natasha Wilson stars in the title role alongside Yazid Gray, Angel Romero, Marie Therese Carmack, and Jeremy Harr.

Performance Dates: Jan. 23-31, 2021

Second Stage Project – George R. White Opera Studio, Pittsburgh Opera Headquarters

“Soldier Songs” by David T. Little will get its Pittsburgh Opera premiere with Yazid Gray and will be directed by Kaley Karis Smith.

Performance Dates: Feb. 20-28, 2021

August Wilson African American Cultural Center

Daniel Schnyder and Bridgette A. Wimberly’s “Charlie Parker’s Yardbird” will gets its Pittsburgh Opera premiere. The work will star Martin Bakari, Yazid Gray, Natasha Wilson, Marie Therese Carmack, and Madeline Ehlinger. Antony Walker conducts with Ron Daniels directing the production.

Performance Dates: May 8, 2021

Concerts & Special Events 

The Pittsburgh Opera will hold its 66th annual Diamond Horseshoe Ball which will off the season. Guests will be able to enjoy an evening of cocktails, dinner, dancing, and special entertainment.

The other major event will be the Maecenas XXXVII, which is the company’s signature fundraiser gala.

The company will also feature the Rising Stars Concert and the Brown Bag Concerts.
