The Atlanta Opera was set to wrap up its 2019-20 season with performances of "Madama Butterfly" and, as part of the company's contemporary works series Discoveries, Tom Cipullo's "Glory Denied." Both shows have been postponed.

The classic “Madama Butterfly” will now be presented in November as part of a festival of two works by Giacomo Puccini, alongside the 2020-21 season-opening production, “La Bohème.” The new dates are November 12, 14, and 17. The staging for this production will be slightly reduced to accommodate both productions. “La Bohème” is set to be performed November 7-15. Both productions will happen at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.

“The new Atlanta Opera Puccini Festival allows us to build anticipation of something greater than the sum of its original parts,” said General and Artistic Director Tomer Zvulun in a statement.

"During this difficult time, we remain dedicated to our mission now more than ever," Zvulun said. "Time will tell what the fall brings for our community, but right now we feel fortunate to be in this position, and we are planning these performances with hope and optimism."

There’s no new date for the company’s production of “Glory Denied” yet. Ticket holders for both productions will be contacted individually.
