Bregenz Festival to Open as Planned

The Bregenz Festival in Austria issued a statement regarding its 2020 summer season noting it was still set to continue as planned.

In a press release the festival said, “As things stand at present, the Bregenz Festival should go ahead as planned from July 22 to August 23 2020. As last year’s production, ‘Rigoletto,’ is returning for its second run on the lake stage, considerably less preparation is needed than for a new production. Rehearsals are due to start in mid-June.”

The festival did however note that it could still decide to cancel the festival with a decision looming as late as May 30, 2020.

“Any decision will be based on directives by the government. Naturally the health of guests, artists and staff is always the highest priority,” the statement added.

The announcement comes on the heals of the Arena di Verona also announcing it hoped to go on as planned.

This season the Bregenz Festival’s production of “Rigoletto” is set to star Long Long, Pavel Petrov, Ovidiu Purcel, Scott Hendricks, Juan Jesús Rodríguez, Vladimir Stoyanov, Hila Fahima, Mélissa Petit, and Ekaterina Sadovnikova.
