The New National Theatre, Tokyo has announced that it will be adding two new operas to its streaming offerings over coming week.

Starting on May 15, audiences can check out Donizetti’s “Don Pasquale” which stars Roberto Scandiuzzi, Biagio Pizzut, Maxim Mironov, and Hasmik Torosyan. The famed bel canto comedy will be available until May 22, 2020.

Then on May 22-29, audiences can check out Akira Nishimura and Mikiro Sasaki’s “Asters.” The opera had its world premiere in Feb. 2019 and was nominated in the World Premiere category of the 2020 International Opera Awards. “’Asters’ isn’t an easy work: the symbolist nature of the story and of the characters require a fair amount of concentration. But the work never becomes dull: the story moves and the music expresses the inner drama,” said Opera Today’s review of the work.

The opera stars Tomohiro Takada, Toru Onuma, Kasumi Shimizu, and Ai Usuki, among others.
