Puccini Festival Moves Forward With Revised 2020 Program

By David Salazar

The Puccini Festival of Torre del Lago has announced its intentions to move forward with its 2020 edition.

The Italian festival has remodeled its program, which will now begin on June 26 through August 14. Among the major events set to take place is a concert featuring Sir Antonio Pappano as an honored guest as he leads the Orquesta de la Academia de Santa Cecilia in music by Puccini and Beethoven. This performance is slated for July 28, 2020.

The original programming for 2020 will be shifted over to 2021 with this year’s showcase to be modeled around “Tosca,” “Madama Butterfly,” and “Gianni Schicchi.” Writer Stefano Massini will recount the three works with screen actress Stefania Sandrelli set to recite “Tosca” on July 13-14.

The full details of the program will be unveiled in coming weeks.

Other festivals in Italy that will move forward with 2020 editions include the Festival Valle d’Itra, the Ravenna Festival and the Rossini Festival.
