The Ópera de Oviedo has announced plans to start its 2020-21 season on time with its opening night performance to remain on Sep. 6, 2020.

The Spanish company announced back in January that it would kickstart its 73rd anniversary season with two company premieres of “L’Heure Espagnol” and “Les Mamelles de Tirésias.”

First rehearsals for the opening double bill are set to kick off on August 17 with social distancing protocols set to remain in place.

There will be additional performances set for Sept. 8, 10, and 12.

The Ópera de Oviedo is one of the first companies to confirm its plans to move forward with the 2020-21 season as previously planned. Some other companies, including the Teatro alla Scala have announced intents to open 2020-21 with revised schedules.

Other productions from the 2020-21 season include “Madama Butterfly,” “I Puritani,” “Fidelio,” and “Les Pêcheurs de Perles.”
