Davinia Rodríguez, Ludovic Tézier & Luca Salsi Highlight Newly Revised Verdi Festival

The Verdi Festival in Parma has announced a newly revised program.

Due to social distancing regulations, the festival will now be held outdoors in order to accommodate as many audience members as possible.

The season will now open with a concert performance of Verdi’s “Macbeth” in French. Ludovic Tézier and Davinia Rodríguez star in the lead roles with Riccardo Zanellato and Giorgio Berrugi. Roberto Abbado will conduct the performances, which will take place at the Parco Ducale di Parma.

Performance Dates: Sept. 11 & 13, 2020

Roberto Abbado will conduct Verdi’s Requiem with soloists Eleonora Buratto, Ksenia Dudnikova, Giorgio Berrugi, and Michele Pertusi. Performances will be dedicated to the victims of COVID-19.

Performance Dates: Sept. 18 & 20, 2020

Verdi’s “Ernani” will also be presented in concert performances with a cast headlined by Eleonora Buratto, Piero Pretti, Amartuvshin Enkhbat, and Roberto Tagliavini. Michele Mariotti conducts the performances.

Performance Dates: Sept. 25 & 27, 2020

Valery Gergiev conducts a concert after an absence of 19 years. The concert will feature music by Verdi, Rossini, and Mendelssohn.

Performance Date: Oct. 2, 2020

At the Teatro Regio di Parma, Verdi’s Quartetto in Mi Minore will be performed. The concert will be indoors with a limited audience.

Performance Date: Oct. 3, 2020

Luca Salsi will perform a Verdi Gala alongside pianist Milo Martani.

Performance Date: Oct. 10, 2020

The festival will also showcase Caravan Verdiano with “La Traviata: Lo spirito di Violetta.” The performance will feature two actors and some singers performing arias and music from the opera. The work will be performed in Parma’s Piazzale Picelli, Busseto’s Piazza Verdi, and Zibello’s Piazza Guareschi.

Performance Dates: Sept. 12-26, 2020

The originally planned festival was set to feature productions of “I Lombardi” and “Rigoletto.”
