Anna Netrebko, Rachel Willis-Sørensen, Pretty Yende, & Natalie Dessay Highlight Opéra National de Bordeaux’s 2020-21 Season

The Opéra National de Bordeaux in France has announced its 2020-21 season featuring five operas and several recitals and concerts.

Opera 

Paul Daniel conducts a new production of Verdi’s “La Traviata” by Pierre Rambert. Rachel Willis-Sørensen and Elbenita Kajtazi alternate the role of Violetta with Benjamin Bernheim and Kevin Amiel as Alfredo and Lionel Lhote and Anthony Clark-Evans as Germont.

Performance Dates: Sept. 17-27, 2020

Debussy’s “Pelléas et Mélisande” is set to conducted by Pierre Dumoussaud and directed by Philippe Béziat and Florent Siaud. Stanislas de Barbeyrac, Chiara Skerath, Alexandre Duhamel, Jérôme Varnier, and Janina Baechle star.

Performance Dates: Nov. 4-7, 2020

“V’lan dans l’œil” will be conducted by Christophe Grapperon in a production by Pierre-André Weitz. The cast will include Lara Neumann, Ingrid Perruche, Olivier Py, Sandrine Sutter, Clémentine Bourgoin, Sophie Calmel, Alma Villard, Damien Bigourdan, Pierre Lebon, Jean-Damien Barbin, Flannan Obé, David Ghilardi, Antoine Philippot, and Antoni Sykopoulos.

Performance Dates: Jan. 25-Feb. 1, 2021

Laurent Pelly directs a new production of Verdi’s “Falstaff” with Laurent Naouri, Véronique Gens, Florie Valiquette, Catriona Morison, Adriana Bignagni Lesca, Thomas Dolié, Kevin Amiel, Christophe Mortagne, Rodolphe Briand, and Thibault de Damas. Paul Daniel conducts.

Performance Dates: March 6-14, 2021

Stanislas de Barbeyrac, Jérémie Schütz, Aude Extrémo, Adèle Charvet, Brett Polegato, Jean-Fernand Setti, Chiara Skerath, and Amina Edris star in Bizet’s “Carmen” with Marc Minkowski conducting.

Performance Dates: May 30-June 11, 2021

Recitals 

Natalie Dessay and Philippe Cassard perform a recital with music by Schumann, Hensel-Mendelssohn, Mahler, Poulenc, Ravel, and Wagner.

Performance Date: Oct. 11, 2020

Karine Deshayes performs alongside conductor Constantin Trinks in a program of music by Mahler and Schumann.

Performance Date: Nov. 19, 2020

Anna Netrebko and Malcom Martineau perform music by Tchaïkovsky, Rachmaninov, Rimski-Korsakov, Charpentier, Offenbach, and Fauré.

Performance Date: Nov. 20, 2020

Aurélie Ligerot and Samuel Dale Johnson perform arias by Verdi with Salvatore Caputo conducting. The concert will also feature music by Liszt inspired by Verdi with pianist Jean-Baptiste Fonlupt.

Performance Date: Nov. 25, 2020

Bordeaux will perform a Christmas concert with Salvatore Caputo conducting.

Performance Dates: Dec. 17-21, 2020

Anita Rachvelishvili and Vincenzo Scalera perform a recital with music by Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninov, Duparc, Tosti, and Taktakishvili.

Performance Date: Jan. 9, 2021

Josep Pons conducts Wagner’s “Ring without Words.”

Performance Date: Jan. 14, 2021

Angela Gheorghiu and Jeff Cohen perform a recital of music by Puccini, Debussy, Cilea, Bellini, Donizetti, Rachmaninov, and Stephănescu.

Performance Date: April 24, 2021

Venera Gimadieva, Richard Croft, and Daniel Schmutzhard perform alongside Paul Daniel who conducts music by Beethoven, Wagner, and Rachmaninov.

Performance Dates: April 29 & 30, 2021

Pretty Yende and Benjamin Bernheim sing music by Verdi, Puccini, Donizetti, Gounod, and Massenet with conductor Sascha Goetzel.

Performance Date: May 12, 2021

Paul Daniel conducts Mahler’s “Das Lied von der Erde” with Marie-Nicole Lemieux and Issachah Savage.
