The Palau de les Arts in Valencia, Spain has announced its 2020-21 season featuring zarzuela, opera, and recitals.

Opera

The Palau de les Arts opens with Romeo Castellucci directing a new production of Mozart’s “Requiem” with Stefano Montanari conducting. Anett Fritsch, Sara Mingardo, Anicio Zorzi Giustiniani, and Nahuel Di Pierro star.

Performance Dates: Sept. 27-Oct. 8, 2020

Kurtág’s “Fin de partie” will be directed by Pierre Audi and conducted by Markus Stenz. The production will star Frode Olsen, Leigh Melrose, Hilary Summers, and Leonardo Cortellazzi.

Performance Dates: Oct. 20-Nov. 4, 2020

Jaume Policarpo directs a new production of Martin i Soler’s “Il Tutore Burlato.” Cristóbal Soler conducts the rarely performed work, which will star Joel Williams and Aida Gimeno.

Performance Dates: Nov. 13-22, 2020

Marc Minkowski conducts Les Musiciens du Louvre in Mozart’s “Mitridate.” The concert version will star Pene Pati, Julie Fuchs, Elsa Dreisig, Jakub Józef Orliński, and Sarah Aristidou.

René Barbera, Anna Goryachova, Riccardo Fassi, Carles Pachón, and Carlos Chausson star in Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” with Maurizio Benini conducting.

Performance Dates: Dec. 10-23, 2020

Ambrogio Maestri sings the title role of Verdi’s “Falstaff” in a production by Mario Martone. James Gaffigan conducts a cast that also includes Ainhoa Arteta, Juan Francisco Gatell, Valeriano Lanchas, Sarah Blanch, Violetta Urmana, and Mattia Olivieri.

Emilio Sagi directs “L’Isola Disabitata” by García with Evgeniya Khomutova, Larisa Stefan, and Joel Williams.

Performance Dates: Feb. 13-24, 2021

Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” will be directed by Àlex Ollé and star Stephen Gould, Elena Pankratova, James Rutherford, Elena Zhidkova, and René Pape. Mikko Franck conducts.

Performance Dates: March 2-14, 2021

The season concludes with “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Pagliacci.” The production will star Sonia Ganassi, Jorge de León, Ruth Iniesta, Joel Williams, Misha Kiria, and Davide Luciano. Jordi Bernàcer conducts.

Performance Dates: May 25-June 5, 2021

Zarzuela 

Barbieri’s ever-popular “El barberillo de Lavapiés” returns to the stage in a production by Alfredo Sanzol. The production will star Borja Quiza and Sandra Ferrández with Miguel Ángel Gómez Martínez conducting.

Lise Davidsen and James Baillieu sing a program of music by Brahms, Schumann, Sibelius, Grieg, and R. Strauss.

Joyce DiDonato performs alongside Il Pomo d´Oro and Maxim Emelyanychev in works by Monteverdi, Gluck, Händel, and Purcell.
