The Staatsoper unter der Linden has announced that the start of the new season will be dedicated to the momentous 450-year anniversary of the Staatskapelle Berlin.

The opera house will deploy stringent COVID-19 rules, including mandatory social distancing and mouth and nose coverings, except when seated for the performance.

Due to the current regulations of the City of Berlin, the number of visitors will be limited.

The Open-Air concert “Staatsoper Für Alle” will take place on Bebelplatz, September 6, 2020. The program will include Beethoven’s Ouverture to “Egmont,” Op. 84,  Romance for Violin No. 1 in G Major, Op. 40, Romance for Violin No. 2 in F Major, Op. 50, and the composer’s famed Symphony No. 9 D Minor, Op. 125.

Soprano Julia Kleiter, alto Waltraud Meier, tenor Andreas Schager and bass René Pape will appear as the soloists for the Symphony. Anne-Sophie Mutter will play the violin.

Daniel Barenboim will conduct the Staatskapelle Berlin. Martin Wright is the Chorus Master.

The concert will be recorded by ZDF and broadcast on September 13 at 10:15 p.m. CET, as well as live-streamed at www.staatskapelle-berlin.de and www.staatsoper-berlin.de.
