Chicago Opera Theater Announces Digital 2020-21 Season

Chicago Opera Theater has announced an extensive digital 2020-21 season, which will feature five full operas.

“Like most arts organizations, we’ve had to take stock of our values and strengths to determine how best to approach our season,” said Stefan Edlis and Gael Neeson General Director Ashley Magnus in a press release. “For COT, the priority is honoring our commitments to our artists and our audiences – which means leveraging our agility to find new ways to connect with our community.”

Performances will be filmed by the Valhalla Media, and streamed live from COT venues without audiences in the house.

Stacey Garrop and Jerre Dye’s “The Transformation of Jane Doe” will feature Samantha Schmid, Morgan Middleton, Leah Dexter, Curtis Bannister, John Mathieu, and Keanon Kyles. Lidiya Yankovskaya will conduct.

Broadcast date: September 15, 2020, 7:30 p.m. CST

Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Kashchej The Immortal” will showcase Raquel González, Annie Rosen, Tyrone Chambers II, Will Liverman, and Wilbur Pauley. Lidiya Yankovskaya conducts.

The broadcast will be available for video-on-demand for 72 hours past the original streaming time.

Broadcast date: November 21, 2020, 7:30 p.m CST

Kamala Sankaram and Jerre Dye’s “Taking up Serpents” will spotlight Alexandra Loutsion, Leah Dexter, Michael Mayes, Morgan Middleton, William Ottow, and Rachel Blaustein. Lidiya Yankovskaya conducts the production by Alison Moritz.

The broadcast will be available for video-on-demand for 72 hours past the original streaming time.

Broadcast date: February 27, 2021, 7:30 p.m CST

Matthew Recio and Royce Vavrek’s “The Puppy Episode” will feature William Ottow, Evan Bravos, Alexandra LoBianco, Morgan Middleton, Keanon Kyles, and Nina Mutalifu. Kedrick Armstrong conducts.

The broadcast will be available for video-on-demand for 24 hours past the original streaming time.

Broadcast date: March 20, 2021, 7:30 p.m CST

Finally, Daniel Catán’s “Il Postino” will star Daniel Montenegro, David Lomelí, Megan Pachecano, Jenny Schuler, Kimberly Hann, Jared Esguerra, and Curtis Bannister. Ivan Lopez-Reynoso will conduct the production by Crystal Manich.
