The English National Opera has canceled its upcoming production of “A Christmas Carol.”

The company also recently postponed a production of “Hairspray,” which was set to open the 2020-21 season. The company currently has plans to present “The Nutcracker” in December.

In a statement, the company said, “As English National Opera continues to focus on performances that can be staged under socially distanced restrictions in our home, the London Coliseum, we – alongside our co-producers the London Musical Theatre Orchestra – have come to the regrettable decision to cancel ‘A Christmas Carol’ planned for the first week of December this year, due to the scale of the production.”

The English National Opera has yet to announce its formal 2020-21 season though it currently has plans to present “La Boheme” in a drive-in experience at Alexandra Palace later in September.
