Academy of Vocal Arts Announces 2020 Virtual Fall Season

The Academy of Vocal Arts has announced its 2020-21 season, which will include a fall virtual slate.

The showcases will feature resident artists, who include Aubry Ballarò, Yihan Duan, Loella Grahn, Joanna Latini, Emily Margevich, Kara Mulder, Renée Richardson, Ethel Trujillo, Alice Chung, Monique Galvao, Chelsea Laggan, Pacale Spinny, Anne Marie Stanley, Zachary Rioux, Shawn Roth, Sahel Salam, Benjamin Dickerson, Daniel Gallegos, Kevin Godínez, Titus Muzi, Peter Barber, Eric Delagrange, Cody Müller, and Griffen Hogan Tracy.

“As the world of opera continues to react and adjust to the COVID-19 pandemic, it is becoming clear that while nothing can replace a live performance, a virtual presence will likely be an integral part of our Resident Artists’ careers,” said AVA’s Vice President and General Manager Scott Guzielek. “These virtual offerings will provide this learning opportunity for the Resident Artists while at the same time providing our audiences with new way to experience AVA.”

First up is the Giargiari Bel Canto Competition which will return with vocal coach Danielle Orlando appearing as the competition’s music director and accompanist. The recital will be streamed via YouTube.

Streaming Date: Oct. 24, 2020

The competiton will be followed up by a New Artists Recital.

Streaming Date: Nov. 14, 2020 

A concert dedicated to Russian Romances will follow suit, bringing the fall season to a close.

Streaming Date: Dec. 12, 2020

The company will also be airing a recital series online. Dates and performers will be announced at a later date.

Additionally, Resident Artists will appear on air via WRTI 90.1 FM.

First up will be WRTI’s Opera Day which will include selections from AVA highlights.

Streaming Date: Nov. 14, 2020

Next up will be an airing of the company’s 2019 production of “Le Nozze di Figaro.”
