By Francisco Salazar

The Festival Aix-en-Provence has announced the first production of its 2021 season.

The new production will feature Sir. Simon Rattle conducting the Wagner opera with a cast that includes Nina Stemme as Isolde and Stuart Skelton as Tristan as well as Jamie Barton, Franz-Josef Selig, and Josef Wagner. Simon Stone will conduct the production, which is also set to feature the London Symphony Orchestra.

The festival also announced that, in addition to the Wagner work, its “comeback edition” will feature a total of nine productions.

The Festival Aix-en-Provence canceled its 2020 edition due to the COVID-19 pandemic and was forced to perform a program entirely composed of online offerings. It also streamed past productions on its website. The festival is currently showcasing its 2019 production of Puccini’s “Tosca” starring Catherine Malfitano and Angel Blue.
