Nina Stemme, Carmen Giannattasio & Magdalena Kožená Lead Festival Aix-en-Provence’s 2021 Season

The Festival Aix-En-Provence has announced its 2021 season.

The French festival will showcase Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” conducted by Sir Simon Rattle and directed by Simon Stone. The production will star Stuart Skelton, Nina Stemme, Jamie Barton, Franz-Josef Selig, and Josef Wagner.

Premiere Date: July 2, 2021

Mozart’s “Le Nozze di Figaro” will be conducted by Thomas Hengelbrock and directed by Lotte de Beer. The cast will include Gyula Orendt, Jacquelyn Wagner, Julie Fuchs, Andrè Schuen, Lea Desandre, and Emiliano Gonzalez Toro.

Premiere Date: June 30, 2021

Kaija Saariaho’s “Innocence” will be showcased at the festival with Susanna Mälkki conducting the world premiere. Simon Stone directs the opera, which will star Magdalena Kožená, Sandrine Piau, Tuomas Pursio, Lilian Farahani, Markus Nykänen, and Jukka Rasilainen.

Christopher Purves, Stéphane Degout, Juan Francisco Gatell, Carmen Giannattasio, Daniela Barcellona, and Giulia Semenzato star in Verdi’s “Falstaff” with Daniele Rustioni conducting and Barrie Kosky directing.

Premiere Date: July 1, 2021

Daniele Rustioni conducts Rimsky_korsakov’s “The Golden Cockerel.” Barrie Kosky directs the production which stars Dmitry Ulyanov, Nina Minasyan, Andrei Popov, Vasily Efimov, Mischa Schelomianski, and Margarita Nekrasova.

Premiere Date: July 22, 2021

Sébastien Daucé conducts “Combattimento, The Black Swan Theory” featuring music by Monteverdi, Cavalli, and Rossi. Silvia Costa directs the production which stars Valerio Contaldo, Lucile Richardot, Julie Roset, Etienne Bazola, and Nicolas Brooymans.

Premiere Date: July 3, 2021

“The Arab Apocalypse” makes its world premiere with Ilan Volkov conducting and Pierre Audi directing.

Premiere Date: July 4, 2021

Kanako Abe conducts the French premiere of “Woman at Point Zero.” Laila Soliman directs the production.

Premiere Date: July 9, 2021

Daniele Rustioni conducts a concert performance of Verdi’s “I Due Foscari.”
