The San Francisco Opera will continue its free opera streams in January with three titles.

The company’s Department of Diversity, Equity and Community (DEC) will also offer family workshops free of charge during December and inaugurate the new year with a series of talks with contemporary composers in January as part of the Opera Aficionado series.

The free streams continue with Gounod’s “Roméo et Juliette.” The 2019 presentation stars Pene Pati as Romeo and Nadine Sierra as Juliet. The cast also includes Lucas Meachem, James Creswell, and Timothy Mix. Yves Abel leads the San Francisco Opera Orchestra.

Streaming Dates: Jan. 16-17, 2021

The company will continue its series with Saint-Saens’ “Samson et Dalila.” The production by Nicolas Joël stars Clifton Forbis and Olga Borodina. The cast also includes Juha Uusitalo, Eric Jordan, and Oren Gradus. Patrick Summers conducts the production which represented the first free simulcast by the Company to the home of the Giants, with approximately 15,000 people in attendance.

Streaming Dates: Jan. 23-24, 2021

The final stream of the month will be  Verdi’s “La Traviata” from a 2014 presentation. Nicole Cabell stars in the lead role alongside Stephen Costello and Vladimir Stoyanov. Nicola Luisotti conducts.

Streaming Dates: Jan. 30-31, 2021

The company’s Department of Diversity, Equity, and Community will continue its weekly live interactive lecture series, Opera Aficionado. The January discussions will showcase Byron Au Young, Dr. Clifford “Kip” Cranna with composer David Conte, and Dr. Anne K. Hege.

On Dec. 23, 27, and 29, San Francisco Opera’s Department of Diversity, Equity and Community will offer three free family workshops, designed for families with young children, in a series called The Adventures of Opera Bear: Winter in Opera Land.
