Berlin’s largest opera house, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, has announced the cancelation of all performances until at least Jan. 10, 2021.

However, the company anticipates that cancelations will be prolonged far beyond that point and on its official website, stated that it assumed that no performances could be offered until the end of February 2021.

The Deutsche Oper Berlin thus joins a long list of German theaters and opera houses that have canceled their performances until the end of January and February 2021, with the most recent examples being the Staatsoper and Komische Oper Berlin.

The opera house still intends to proceed with the Zandonai and Ricordi’s opera “Francesca da Rimini,” which should premiere on March 14, 2021, with soprano Sara Jakubiak in the title role.

Germany entered a new lockdown on Dec. 16, 2020, closing restaurants, bars, cinemas, theaters, concert halls, opera houses, and all non-essential businesses until at least Jan. 10, 2021.
