Teatro Real Cancels Performances Due to Storm Filomena

The Teatro Real de Madrid has canceled the final performance of “Don Giovanni” due to severe weather.

The company stated that due to heavy snowfall and in accordance with authorities, the Teatro Real has decided to cancel the Jan. 9 showcase.

The theater also announced that the family performances of “Todos a la Gayarre” for Sunday, Jan. 10 have also been canceled. The Ópera en Cine was also canceled, as was “Marie” at the Teatro de la Abadía.

The Teatro Real will refund ticketholders.

According to meteorologists between 10 and 20 inches of snow had fallen in the capital of Spain due to Storm Filomena. The snowfall totals are the most Madrid has experienced since 1963 and has already caused the death of four people.
