The Mariinsky Theatre will live stream a performance of Prokofiev’s opera “The Fiery Angel” on MEZZO TV on Jan. 31 at 5:30 p.m. CET.

The opera will star Elena Stikhina, Evgeny Nikitin, Anna Kiknadze, Evgeny Akimov, and Mikhail Petrenko. Valery Gergiev will conduct the Mariinsky Theatre Orchestra in the production by David Freeman. The opera is a co-production with the Royal Opera House Covent Garden.

Elena Stikhina has recently performed the role of Tatyana in Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin,” the role of Cio-Cio-San in Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly,” and the title role in Puccini’s “Tosca” at the Mariinsky Theatre. The soprano is slated to perform the title role in Richard Strauss’ “Salome” at the Teatro alla Scala on Feb. 20, 2021. Due to the Italian government’s COVID-19 regulations, the performance will be performed without public and streamed live.

Evgeny Nikitin has recently performed the title role in Mozart’s “Don Giovanni,” the role of Wotan in Wagner’s “Die Walküre,” and the role of Gunther in “Siegfried” and “Götterdämmerung” at the Mariinsky Theatre. The bass is slated to go back onstage in the role of Scarpia for the performances of Puccini’s “Tosca” at the Metropolitan Opera House in December 2021.
