Malmö Opera has announced that all performances of “Circus Days and Nights” will be live-streamed.

The new opera by Philip Glass and circus company Cirkus Cirkör will have its world premiere on May 29, 2021. The work is based on a series of poems by American poet Robert Lax and will feature a fusion of circus and opera performers.

Sopranos Elin Rombo and Margaux De Valensart will lead the cast, which also features Simon Wiborn, Jakob Högström, Nikolas Pulka, Karolina Blixt, Aaron Hakala, Andreas De Ryck, Susanna Stern, Lars Johansson Brissman, Methinee Wongtrakoon, Peter Âberg, Beatriz Pantojo, and Pierre Heault.

Minna Weurlander conducts the production, which will be directed by Tilde Björfors.

“I have had the rights to the poem for about ten years, but I couldn’t write the piece because I hadn’t found my circus. When I saw Tilde’s staging of ‘Satyagraha,’ it struck me: Here’s my circus,” Glass said in a press release.

The opera will run between May 29 and June 13, 2021.
