Baden Baden Festspielhaus Cancels Osterfestspiele & Whitsun Festivals

By Francisco Salazar

The Baden Baden Festspielhaus has announced that its annual Osterfestspiele Baden-Baden and its Whitsun Festival have been canceled due to extended COVID-19 restrictions.

The German festival was expected to open reopen in early May and had rescheduled an originally planned production of Tchaikovsky’s “Mazeppa” in concert form. The work was supposed to be performed twice and feature the Berlin Philharmonic conducted by Kirill Petrenko. The May program was also set to showcase a concert “From the New World” and a recital by violinist Bomsori Kim.

The Festspielhaus has not confirmed whether it will reopen in the summer for programs featuring Sonya Yoncheva, Yannick Nezet Seguin, Joyce DiDonato, and a production of “Tosca” led by Valery Gergiev, among others.

More programming updates will be announced in the coming weeks.
