English Touring Opera to Tour Handel’s ‘Amadigi’ in Fall

By Francisco Salazar

The English Touring Opera has announced its return to live performances starting in October.

The company will begin with a national autumn tour of Handel’s “Amadigi” in a new production led by director James Conway and conductor Jonathan Peter Kenny.

Designers Neil Irish and Harry Pizzey will collaborate on “Amadigi” and rehearsals for the production have already begun.

In anticipation of the production, the ETO will also begin releasing a series of filmed “Amadigi” arias captured during sessions at the atmospheric Stone Nest in London’s West End featuring several singers in the tour as well as musical accompaniment from the Old Street Band.

The news follows the ETO’s appointment of Gerry Cornelius as the company’s new Music Director.

“Amadigi” will open at the Hackney Empire on Oct. 1 before touring.
