Anna Netrebko & Luca Salsi Join Jonas Kaufmann in Salzburg Whitsun Festival’s ‘Tosca’

The Salzburg Whitsun Festival has announced a cast change for its “Tosca” performance.

The festival announced that Anja Harteros and Bryn Terfel have been forced to cancel their participation in the festival and as a result, Anna Netrebko and Luca Salsi have agreed to perform the title role and Scarpia on short notice.

Netrebko and Salsi will appear alongside Jonas Kaufmann as Mario Cavaradossi and Cecilia Bartoli who will sing the role of Il Pastorello, the young shepherd, with which she made her debut at the Opera in Rome at the age of ten.

Zubin Mehta conducts the concert performance slated to be performed on May 24 at the Großes Festspielhaus.

The performance will mark only the third time Netrebko and Kaufmann perform an opera together. Previously they both appeared at the Royal Opera House in “La Traviata” and “La Forza del Destino.”

Salsi and Netrebko previously appeared together in “Tosca” at the Teatro alla Scala in December 2019.
