Following questions about a possible live stream for the upcoming production of “Tristan und Isolde” starring Jonas Kaufmann and Anja Harteros, the Bayerische Staatsoper has responded via social explaining why there is no planned to broadcast the showcase online.

In a statement, the company said, “Due to the occasion, a few thoughts on ‘Tristan und Isolde’ for anyone who has been calling for a live stream more or less loudly for weeks: Have you ever thought why the Bayerische Staatsoper can always put together such outstanding casts and present to you, our audience? Have you ever thought why many artists always choose the Bavarian State Opera for big role debuts? Today we’re revealing the secret: you’ll feel particularly comfortable at our house! And why do they? Because we don’t apply pressure. Because we leave space and air for everyone involved to breathe, in rehearsals, and to prepare. A ′′ first ascent to Mount Everest ′′ (Jonas Kaufmann singing Tristan and Isolde) needs a relaxed preparation and rehearsal phase in a protected environment. This is what we want to be for all artists, and we ask you to respect the understandable desire of all participants!”

However, the company did not rule the live stream out completely noting that if anything changes, it will inform its audience.

“Tristan und Isolde” is one of the most anticipated productions of the year as it will mark Kaufmann and Harteros’ role debuts in the title roles. The production is completely sold out with a revival coming in the 2021-22 season with Nina Stemme and Stuart Skelton.

The Bayerische Staatsoper recently announced its own recording company and will release “Die Tote Stadt” starring Jonas Kaufmann.
