The Semperoper Dresden has announced that it will remain closed until Jan. 9, 2022

The company noted that in agreement with the Saxon State Theatres, the Saxon State Ministry of Science, Culture, and Tourism, the company has decided to extend the suspension of performances.

The news comes as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Germany due to the new variant Omnicron. On Nov. 29, the country reported 55,880 new cases.

The Semperoper Dresden recently shut down at the end of November due to a lockdown in Saxony. Theaters, opera houses, museums, cinemas, clubs, bars, and saunas were forced to close down. Meanwhile, Restaurants were allowed to open between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. under the strict 2G rules. All events were also banned, including Christmas markets.

Ticketholders will receive vouchers, which will be valid for three years and can be redeemed for almost all events of the Semperoper Dresden. There will also be an option to get a refund or to donate the ticket.
