Marie Jacquot Appointed Music Director of Royal Danish Opera

Marie Jacquot has been appointed Music Director of the Royal Theater in Copenhagen, also known as the Royal Danish Opera. Her five-year tenure is set to kick off 2024.

The 31-year-old conductor will succeed Alexander Vedernikov, who served as director until 2020 when he passed away due to complications related to COVID-19.

The French music director was awarded the Ernst-Schuch-Prize in 2019 and was nominated for the International Opera Awards in 2020. Initially she studied trombone in Paris before continuing her education in Vienna and Weimar.

Jacquot has studied under such music directors as  Simeos Pironkoff, Konrad Leitner, Erwin Ortner, Simon Rattle, Ralf Weikert, Zubin Mehta, Bertand De Billy and Fabio Luisi, among others.

Throughout her career she has collaborated with such ensembles as the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, Wiener Symphoniker, Saatsoper Stuttgart, MDR-Musiksommer, Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, Lausanne Chamber Orchestra, Munich Radio Orchestra among many others. Among her career highlights to date is leading the world premiere of the opera “South Pole” and leading a number of world premieres at the Munich Opera Festival.
