Season Preview: Your guide to the arts in 2023

Artistic Director Patrick Nolan has unveiled Opera Queensland’s 2023 season, in which the company continues to explore Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Lorenzo da Ponte’s opera trilogy, as well as expanding its reach across the state with its regional touring program and Festival of Outback Opera.

Speaking to Limelight ahead of the launch, Nolan says “Opera captures so many different ways of telling a story. At OQ, we refer to it as ‘sung story’. That experience of watching someone let rip in a great opera is like nothing else, and it’s a glorious thing to encounter and be part of.”

The season gets underway in March with a concert performance of Verdi’s Macbeth at the Concert Hall, QPAC. Incoming Chief Conductor Umberto Clerici will lead the Queensland Symphony Orchestra and the Opera Queensland Chorus, with baritone José Carbó as the titular antihero, soprano Anna-Louise Cole as Lady Macbeth and tenor Rosario La Spina in the role of Macduff.
